Skip NavigationCpl. Larry Bailey, his wife Desiree, and brand new baby daughter recently broke ground on their smart home in Sumerduck, VA. The ground breaking marks the beginning of an exciting new journey for the family, one that will result in a better quality of life.
Larry Bailey II, whose father Larry Bailey I is a 30-year Navy veteran, followed in his father's footsteps when he enlisted in the Marines. While in Afghanistan in 2011, Bailey, who received the Purple Heart for his combat wounds, lost both legs and his left hand to an IED explosion that detonated while he was trying to repel an assault on his unit.
The new high tech smart home will enable Larry to carry out essential household functions, such as turn the lights on and off, with just the swipe of an iPad. Thanks to the help of many generous volunteers and sponsors, including L&M Carpet One Floor & Home (a father and son team who will be installing all of the flooring in the home), the Bailey family should be home in 6-8 months.
